"Vancouver Sun", in a news feature said since 2006, the Government troops have had a steady succession of victories aiming at this target. The news feature by Jonathan Manthorpe said the offensive launched two years ago by the Sri Lankan Government forces against the Tamil tiger terrorists took a new momentum in the past few days with the capture of Veditthaltivu, a key Naval Base of the terrorists. The Canadian newspaper pointed out that the Government troops took this port town in the Northwestern coast after heavy fighting. The port has been a base for the terrorists and is an important entry point for arms and other supplies smuggled in, mostly across the Palk Strait. It said the soldiers swiftly consolidated their hold on Veditthaltivu and pursued the tigers Northwards, attacking them with all force and helicopter gun ships.

Jul 19, 2008 - wOW! The Sinhalese people are so desperate.Just cuase the vancouver sun, justs sees that the army has gained some ground in Sri Lanka, the world thinks that the LTTE are struggling. Just like in the 1980's at the start of this war when Prabahran said that he will get the Tamil people an independant state hood, he will get it. And the world will soon realize that the LTTE's act of giving up regions are just a war 'TACTIC'/

Jul 19, 2008 - 25 years ago this month in Sri Lanka, riots broke out between the majority Singhalese and minority Tamils, an event that came to be known as Black July. On July 23, 1983, Tamil Tiger rebels ambushed and killed 13 government soldiers in the northern town of Jaffna. Singhalese nationalists used the incident to whip up anti-Tamil feelings and, a day later, thousands of Singhalese went on the rampage against Tamils. Some sources claim that as many as 3000 people were killed.
